League Structure Review:The league is undergoing a review of the structure of the league and where it needs
to be heading for next season. There are two viewpoints to this. Mine (Mark Whitby, League
Publicity Officer) can be read here.
Or, for an alternate view point, go to the Newcastle Chess Club website and read Martyn Harris's viewpoint on the ideas
here. Feel free to provide feedback to both of us or
your club's rep.
Memo to all club captains: The committee would like to do away with postal communication of match results, just using email instead. However
for this to work all teams/clubs would need to email results to both myself and Martyn Harris (Newcastle Chess Club),
which is not happening at the moment. The idea of emailing two of us is that if one us has a computer/ISP on the blink hopefully the results will still get into the system via the other. Let's see whether
we can prove the email approach viable in the remainder of this season so that we can vote postcards out at the AGM. Please note though that any scorecards should be emailed in text format and not
as a scanned image which can slow those down on dial up. My address is markswhitby at btinternet dot come and Martyn's is nulchess at orpheusmail dot co dot uk. Please remember that " at " = @ and
" dot " = . so edit the addresses before sending!
Memo re Rapidplay: Matches in this years rapidplay should be taking place in June and July. Entries for the competition should be given to Martyn Harris (email is fine)
ASAP so that he can generate fixtures. The only change in the rules from last year is that the individual grade limit has been raised to 130. I believe that all clubs that played last year have already
payed for a rapidplay team, but Martyn still needs confirmation of entry. (text taken from Martyn's site)
And finally: From the next committee meeting onwards, at least one representative from each club will be emailled any committee agendas and invited to the meeting in a non-voting
capacity. Also, I have added details of the Newcastle and Stafford Congesses to the menu bar. Check out the details and dates there.
Mark Whitby, NDSCA Publicity Officer.
